Designer’s Ratings: 3.5/5 stars Price: $$ My search of furniture shops brings me to Crate & Barrel this week, Why ION? Honestly i just wanted good food in the basement (*laughs). Crate & Barrel has been growing pretty big in the furniture & homeware scene in the last couple of years. People love them simply because they bring good quality everyday designs with a touch of cool. They give me a sense that they know what e young people want (hey friends don’t judge, 30 is young these days:) ) We young people (yes me!) want more than just basic functional pieces, we want style, quality and a bit of character. I wouldn’t say Crate and Barrel has a great deal character or personality but i feel their designs are staple with a touch of chic (very american). I like them not showy, yet exuding abit of chill and preppy ( check out urban dictionary. Very apt) As usual, below are my picks from Crate & Barrel…

IMG_2149 No one would mind a balcony like that! Prints on prints are quite the fad these days, tastefully done u get the above, else be prepared to get laughed at by everyone that comes along. Anyway, just note that have an anchor deep colour is really important to help bring out the patterns. Visual contrast is important, a loud print should try not be accompanied by a loud colour ( of cos there are exceptions but trust me it’s not an easy task to execute) Crate & Barrel is full of wonderful comfy beds setting that i simply adore ( though some bed setting are just bit too old for me and of course i didn’t take pictures of them lol. If you pick them i’ll know you are old at heart.) IMG_2180 Navy is always in, i wonder why. Very safe yet still cool. IMG_2189 I haven’t seen too many teal bed room sets that looks this inviting, I think the back panels on the horizontal wood striped wall with my favourite mandala mirror gives its that holiday getaway feel(my recent obsessions with circles and spheres… don’t think too many ppl get it but oh well) IMG_2186 This poster bed somehow reminds me of Goldilocks ( the little girl with the three bears?) sleeping so comfortably nestled under the sheets (not very smart girl btw, who messes with bears man…). The wooden tall straight lined poster, and the trees covers are very well matched. IMG_2190 Yet again proven again green and woods work! Now comes my favourite part shopping, accessories. Accessories are what brings out character in a space, they help people understand and discover who you are as a person. IMG_2157 Art pieces setting the mood to a more exciting space. A print played with pops of colour from the art pieces keeps the eyes interested yet settling on the grey and blue tones. IMG_2150 Copper Pots making me feel like i can cook like Jamie Oliver IMG_2151 Pretty Sundae bowls reminds me of how much i need an ice cream in this hot weather! IMG_2158 Trollies are items i always encourage my clients to buy for their homes. It can serve as that extra table when you have your that steam boat that you can never find a place to put your extra food (i.e. vegetables), or pushing that plate of tea, cookies and pastries to entertain your friends in the living? Or that wine bucket placed on it with a cheese platter in your balcony serving close friends? IMG_2165 Laundry Baskets anyone? IMG_2159 My favourite mandala at work again! IMG_2173 Hey Bros this is how you impress! IMG_2160 This is where you get your prints IMG_2168 Where you get your colours IMG_2170 cheese cutting board at work IMG_2176 Industrial cutleries anyone? To conclude, Carte & Barrel is current and has pretty good quality, though i can understand why their price-point, i wouldn’t say they are value for money? However, i do believe that there are some pieces worth investing just to give your space that kick in the quality department. Thanks all who supported my last article, please like and leave a comment if you have something you would like to share or suggest:) See you guys next monday:) Check out woodworks.sg last week’s post if u haven’t: link To Comfort and Aesthetics, Keith Low IMG_2166

  1. Thank you for the window love! I was the merchandiser who designed that window, and it made my day when I found your post (albeit long after the window has been changed 😅)

I enjoyed reading your other posts, and look forward to more posts from you!

    Regards,
    Livvy
